The Artist

Jonathan M. Wert, III, was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1963. Jonathan is the son of Dr. Jonathan M. Wert, Jr., and the late Sara Ann (Price) Wert. At a young age his family moved to Tennessee so his father could attend a local college. Upon graduating, his father became a Naturalist on Bays Mountain located in Kingsport, Tennessee. While assisting his father, Jon became interested in wildlife and became an avid outdoorsman. As a child he taught himself to draw and began to sketch animals using pencil. In 1975, his family moved to Port Royal, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school he attended Harrisburg Area Community College where he received an Associates Degree in Architecture. As time passed he advanced from drawing in pencil to drawing with ink and pen, colored pencils and painting. Jon chose to paint animals in a natural setting using acrylic paints. Being an avid outdoorsman he has an attention for detail and takes pride in his artwork. In 1988, Jon began entering his art work in a local art competition where he won numerous awards. In 1994, he started a family. He took a 20 year break from painting and drawing to be a father to his three sons. Now that his sons are older he can pursue his passion for painting and drawing. He currently resides in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania, with his fiancé and children. He works full time from home as an outside sales representative for modular home manufacturers and paints in his spare time. His dream is to become a full time artist. After 20 years he entered 2 of the paintings he completed in 2014, in a local art competition. His acrylic painting "Babbling Brook" won 2nd place and the People's Choice award. He wants to share his love of nature with the public and hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams.
